After completing three AWS certifications already, I decided to give the AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam a shot — and guess what? I cracked it in just one month with a score of 721.
If you’re wondering how to prepare, what to study, or when to take the exam — here’s an honest, no-fluff guide from someone who just did it.
📚 My Learning Resources
I didn’t go overboard with 10 different platforms. I stuck to two trusted sources:
1. Udemy — Stephane Maarek’s Course
If you’ve done any AWS cert, you probably know Stephane. His AI Practitioner course is:
- Clear, beginner-friendly, and to the point
- Covers just what you need — not a word more
- Great for brushing up on foundational ML/AI concepts with AWS services
2. Practice Tests
I found practice tests extremely helpful to get familiar with:
- The exam format
- Scenario-based questions
- AWS service names like SageMaker, Rekognition, Comprehend, etc.
You don’t need to get 100% on mocks — just understand why an answer is correct.
⏳ Time Taken: 1 Month
Because I already had experience with AWS (3 certs!), I didn’t need to start from scratch. One month of focused, smart prep is more than enough for this exam — even for beginners if you’re consistent.
If you’re totally new, 4–6 weeks should be enough if you study just 1–2 hours a day.
☕ My Exam Strategy — Take It at Night!
One major thing I changed from my previous exam?
I scheduled my exam at night — and I highly recommend it.
Why?
- 🌙 No distractions: The world is quiet, and your mind is focused
- 🔋 No power cuts or internet issues: I live in India, and at night, there are fewer interruptions
- 🧘♀️ You’ve had the whole day to study, eat well, and ease into exam mode
- ☕ I drank coffee before the exam, so I was alert and didn’t yawn like I did during Developer Associate 😅
I finished the exam in just 40 minutes, out of the full 90.
💡 My Tips for You
1. Don’t panic about the “AI” part
You don’t need deep ML or coding knowledge. The exam focuses on:
- AWS AI/ML services (like SageMaker, Lex, Polly, etc.)
- Use cases and benefits
- Responsible AI and bias topics
- Basic terminology
2. Stick to one course and one practice test source
Too many resources = overwhelm. Stephane’s course + good mocks are enough.
3. Make your own notes
Summarize each service in 2–3 lines. Especially:
- What the service does
- One use case
- What it’s not used for
4. Take breaks and study when your brain works best
For me, that’s at night. You might be a morning person — honor your rhythm.
5. Don’t over-prepare
Trust your previous AWS knowledge. This cert is foundational — it’s meant to build confidence, not break you.
🎉 Final Thoughts
This exam is a great entry point into the AI/ML world if you’re already in the AWS ecosystem. It’s beginner-friendly but still technical enough to feel meaningful.
If you’ve already done other AWS certifications, you’ll find this one a light, refreshing change.
Take your time, prep smart, and maybe… try scheduling it at night like I did 🌙😉
